New Jobs Coming to the Borough

JOBSEEKERS have the chance for apply for up to 40 new jobs through a recruitment and training ‘hub’ initiated by Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council.

 

The new jobs are to build a boiler at the MGT Teesside Renewable Energy Plant currently being constructed at Teesport. The contract to build the boiler has been awarded to the Atlantic Projects Company (APC).

 

There will be opportunities to apply for the jobs and receive training for future employment at the plant through the new, council-supported recruitment and training hub at Grangetown which has been established to offer specialised support for jobseekers. The hub is the result of a partnership between the council, MGT and the Future Regeneration of Grangetown (FROG) community organisation. A total of 145 of local people have already found work through the hub and more than 200 are receiving training.

 

Up to 40 semi-skilled and unskilled workers are needed in the coming weeks to build the boiler. However up to 300 workers will be needed during the peak construction period from June 2018 to February 2019 on the boiler contract.

 

Councillor Bob Norton, Cabinet Member for Economic Growth at Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council, said: “We are delighted to be supporting APC to identify suitably qualified local labour and companies to supply them on this important project. MGT and APC are excellent employers and we are determined to maximise this opportunity which will benefit the entire Tees Valley.”

 

Brian Sherras, director of marketing and business development at APC, said: “APC looks forward to working with MGT and the Tees Valley community to complete this important project and bring quality jobs to the area. In addition to direct-hire skilled, semi-skilled and unskilled workers, we are currently seeking a number of subcontractors to deliver elements such as scaffolding, insulation, cranes and non-destructive testing work and are talking to several local companies.”
